How is content reviewed?

All content is reviewed by professionals with significant experience in the creative sector who review on an individual basis with guidelines set by Shutterstock. Our reviewer team’s philosophy is based on a number of variables with customer satisfaction as a principle theme. As such it is possible that they have different views about what is acceptable content. Our reviewers inspect all images at 100% for quality guidelines like focus and noise. We recommend that you do the same with your content prior to submission in order to avoid unnecessary rejections. You can also post your content in the critique section of the forum to get feedback from other contributors.

Content submissions are reviewed throughout the entire week. It usually takes 3-5 days for content to be reviewed. However, during times of increased submissions traffic, the reviewing process time may take up to 7-10 days. In these cases a group of images is likely selected for a more thorough review because a reviewer had a specific policy or judgment question or there was a question that our team of review coordinators extended to the contributor. Being put into a more thorough review doesn't indicate that there's any suspicion of wrongdoing. It can mean that a reviewer has asked for a more authoritative judgment or answer before choosing to accept or reject a group of images, or that the team is following standard policies and procedures related to ensuring the integrity of the collection (both of which are a good thing). Those procedures are in place to ultimately protect you and your images as a contributor, as well as protect our customers.
